State Senator Kent Rogert announced Monday he has refiled for another term representing District 16 in Nebraska's Unicameral.
Rogert is the first to file for the position, but new candidates have until March 1 to file.
Rogert will be officially kicking off his campaign with an event Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at Oakland Golf Club. The public is welcome to attend.
"I've enjoyed the past three years, but in all reality the first two years when you first get started, you're spending the whole time figuring out what's going on," said Rogert. "I thought last year was a very successful session for me so, in my opinion, I'm just getting started. I've got a lot of work and a lot of things I'd like to do yet. It's going to take me another term to proceed."
If Rogert is re-elected it will be his last term under the state's term limit law which allows state senators only two four-year terms. Upon completion of his final term Rogert could vacate his position for four years and run again but at this time he does not have plans to do so.
Every two years, half of the legislature is up for re-election and in 2010 there is only one term limited senator since Senator Mie Friend of Omaha resigned recently to take a job in state government.
When Rogert was elected, 20 senators were term limited. Another 16 reached the limit last year.
The Nebraska Unicameral is almost to the point where everyone who was in before term limits were enacted have served their entire term, Rogert said.
"That's why I feel it's important to stay another four years," he said. "I'm just finally getting my feet on the ground and there's so many new people. I've got leading to do yet of new people just coming on."
He recalls how fast the past four years have gone and the 500 plus events he's attended across the district and across the state meeting the public.
Rogert is excited to get back out there meeting people and touching base with individuals he met along the campaign trail in the past.
He has always had the support of his family and friends along the way encouraging him to keep working.
"They'll (his family) be excited about it, and my friends, if I didn't run they would be mad at me I think. They'd be disappointed," said Rogert. "I'm not doing it because of them but I'm excited to have a lot of support."
